TRIBUTE: Minute's silence planned ahead of Kinlochshiel Shinty Club games as Lochalsh community honours memory of father-of-six John MacKinnon and extends 'sympathy, love and warmth' to all affected by day of horror

A LOCHALSH shinty club will honour the memory of a man who died on a day of tragedy for the area.

Kinlochshiel Shinty Club this evening indicated its wish to "help play a small part in recovering normality in our communities" following Wednesday's events on Skye and in Dornie.

Posting ahead of weekend matches, the club said players, officials and supporters "wish to extend our sympathy, love and warmth" to the families, friends and communities of Skye and Lochalsh affected, "all of whom will still be coming to terms with this happening".

It added: "We send our wishes for a speedy recovery to all, and in particular to John Don and Fay MacKenzie and family.

"We have all been shocked by this awful event but hope that our club can help play a small part in recovering normality in our communities.

"Games will be played this Saturday, and there will be a minute's silence before each game in respect for the passing of John MacKinnon and reflection for all."

Mr Mackinnon (47), a father of six, died on Skye.

Three other people were left injured in hospital following attacks, one of them in the Lochalsh village of Dornie.

* Finlay MacDonald (39) appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court today in connection with the death.

He appeared in private at Inverness Sheriff Court facing charges of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

MacDonald made no plea and was remanded in custody.

No application for bail was made.

A significant police presence has remained in the areas affected.
