A WESTER Ross community group is refusing to let coronavirus dampen its spirits and is pressing ahead with a quirky annual competition which heralds the festive season.

Gairloch and Loch Ewe Action Forum (GALE) says its Christmas Tree Festival 2020 "must go on" and has opened it for entries.

The group invites community groups and charities to enter a tree that represents their cause to display in the GALE Centre during the festivities.

It has room to display five trees. Local people then have three weeks togo into the centre to vote for their favourite tree whilst simultaneously supporting local groups and charities. They are invited to donate 50p a vote. The trees with the highest number of votes get a share of the vote money to go towards their charity or cause.

Registration forms can be collected from the GALE centre. Alternatively email Louise at marketing@galeteam.co.uk for more info.

Entries close on November 21.

GALE said: "We aren't doing the events that go along with the festival this year but we hope to turn the GALE Centre into a bright, cosy, Christmassy place for people to come and enjoy over the coming months."
