Fortrose Academy former pupil and Red Arrows pilot to guest at awards evening

Fortrose Academy is set to welcome back a high-flying former pupil for its awards evening this week.

Joe Hourston was a pupil at the Black Isle school from 1991 to 1997 before going on to Glasgow University where he obtained a BEng in aerospace engineering.

A qualified flying instructor he has worked with the RAF including as a display pilot with the world-famous Red Arrows.

He then worked a pilot with Jet2 and is currently a pilot instructor with Boeing Defence UK.

He will attend the Fortrose Academy awards evening on Wednesday of this week, giving a speech and presenting prizes.

Acting deputy head teacher Muir Morton said: “We’re thrilled to welcome back a former pupil.

“Joe will be sharing inspiring stories from his incredible journey, highlighting the power of teamwork, resilience and the core values at Fortrose Academy: Respect, Unity, and Ambition.

“This special evening is all about celebrating the achievements of our amazing young people — and who better to help us do that than someone who once walked these very halls?”
