Highland Council has issued its winter road condition report for today (Tuesday).

Maps of the Council’s gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at https://www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

The local authority stresses that the information provided "is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time" and is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free.

It says drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.

Ross and Cromarty East: Icy stretches and frosty patches. All routes being treated.

Ross and Cromarty West: Generally damp roads, with odd icy patches on roads furthest east. Roads being treated as required. No issues reported overnight.

Badenoch and Strathspey: Widespread ice across the area – main roads and bus routes being treated as necessary.

Nairn: Damp/wet roads with patches of ice and frost – main roads and bus routes being treated as necessary

Caithness: Hard white frost reported with treatment on-going. Road surface temperatures slow to lift. No overnight issues reported.

Lochaber: Crews stood-down this morning. No problems overnight

Sutherland: Frosty with icy stretches in central and east Sutherland this morning. All these routes currently being treated. No known problems.

Skye and Raasay: No planned action. Positive road surface temperatures. No overnight issues to report.

Inverness: Grey frost stretches and icy patches on roads – gritters heading out on all routes.
