THREE new Covid-19 infections were detected across NHS Highland in the past day, the latest daily figures from the Scottish Government have revealed.

The number of confirmed cases recorded across the region since the start of the pandemic rose from 5146 to 5149.

There were 139 new Covid-19 cases reported across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This was 1.1 per cent of all tests carried out over that period.

Fifty-eight people were receiving hospital treatment for the virus in Scotland last night, while 11 of those were in intensive care.

No deaths were reported in the past 24 hours among people who tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Scotland, there were yet again no fresh cases of the virus in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Sixteen new infections were registered in NHS Grampian, for a running total of 15,050.

And there were three new cases across NHS Tayside, taking its overall tally to 14,699.

There have now been 226,644 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Scotland since the pandemic began last year.

Some 2.833 million Scots have now had their first Covid vaccination jag, while almost 1.35 million have had their second.
