Covid-19 update.

THIRTEEN new cases of the coronavirus have been registered across the NHS Highland health board area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases rose from 5379 to 5392 when Public Health Scotland published its latest daily update.

There were 1011 newly-confirmed cases of Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or three per cent of all tests conducted in the country over that period.

Some 121 people were receiving treatment for the virus in Scottish hospitals last night – a figure unchanged from yesterday.

Of those, 14 were in intensive care, which was a rise of two since the previous update.

And sadly one further person has died after testing positive for Covid-19 in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were once again no new cases in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Twenty-seven fresh infections were spotted in the NHS Grampian area, for a total of 15,674.

And 142 new positive tests were recorded across NHS Tayside, to take its running tally to 16,086.

Some 242,875 known cases of the virus have been registered in Scotland since the pandemic first struck.

More than 3.42 million Scots have now had their first Covid vaccination jag, while in excess of 2.31 million have had their second.
