THIRTEEN new Covid-19 cases have been detected across the NHS Highland area.

The region’s cumulative number of infections rose from 4899 to 4912 when the latest daily update was published on Friday afternoon.

The number of people being treated for the virus in Highland hospitals last night stood at 12 – up one from Thursday.

There were 655 positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours. This was 2.9 per cent of all tests carried out during that period.

The number of people receiving hospital treatment for the virus fell by eight, to 397.

Of those, 35 were in intensive care – down three from Thursday’s update.

But sadly a further eight people have died after testing positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new infections in NHS Shetland, NHS Orkney or NHS Eileanan Siar.

Thirty-five new cases were recorded across NHS Grampian – taking its running total to 13,962.

And 47 were reported in NHS Tayside, for a cumulative tally of 13,791.

Some 212,509 people have now tested positive for the coronavirus across Scotland since the pandemic began.

A further 43,458 people received their first vaccine dose yesterday, while 9335 had their second jag.

More than 2.066 million people have now received their first dose.
