The Port of Cromarty Firth completed a hat trick of wins at the Maritime UK Awards by winning the coastal powerhouse category for a record-breaking third time in a row.

Held at the Glasgow Science Centre, the awards recognise the very best of the UK’s maritime sector and are awarded to individuals and businesses, charities, colleges and universities for achievements across a range of areas.

These include business growth, innovation, sustainability and diversity.

The coastal powerhouse award is given to a business or organisation which has become a significant driver or catalyst for growth within a coastal community.

Celebrating the win, Port of Cromarty Firth’s strategic business development manager, Joanne Allday, said: “This is an amazing achievement, and we’re delighted to have been chosen as the Maritime UK awards coastal powerhouse for the third time in a row. Thank you to the Maritime UK judges, and to the sponsors, The National Shipbuilding Office.

"It is a fitting reward for all the hard work that the team has and continues to put in working towards securing a sustainable pipeline of work that if successful will have a big impact on the Port and the region securing sustainable work for future generations.”

Hundreds of maritime businesses attended the ceremony, which was hosted by award-winning broadcaster Jennifer Reoch, to see the 14 awards handed out.

Among those involved in the event were UK international trade minister Anne-Marie Trevelyan MP and UK maritime minister Robert Courts MP.

Maritime UK chairwoman Sarah Kenny said following the awards: “Congratulations to all our fantastic winners, and to all those that were shortlisted by the judges. These organisations are helping to play a primary role in realising the UK’s ambition to become the world’s most competitive maritime centre by 2050.

“Right now, maritime in the UK is a sector with real momentum, and you could feel that last night. The task before us is to build upon our recent success, and I look forward to seeing what further progress the sector is making when we meet next year in Hull!"
