Bishop Mark Strange has backed the initiative.

What she regards as a lack of action to help victims of bullying at NHS Highland has led one staff member to establish her own support group.

The initiative is designed to provide a safe place for those who have developed mental health problems due to bullying.

The organiser, who works for NHS Highland, wants to remain anonymous but has won the backing of Bishop Mark Strange for the first gathering to be held at the Kenneth Street Hall in Inverness on January 15 between 4pm and 7pm.

The organiser said it was open to anyone who “may have lost their jobs and careers or developed mental health problems due to bullying and incivility in the workplace”.

To protect victims of bullying, only those who have pre-registered with the Inverness Cathedral office can attend. Attendees are encouraged to take food to make it into a tea party.

The organiser said: “I fully understand and can empathise over the mental health issues as I have suffered in a similar way through bullying in nursing, but having moved on I am now in a position of wanting and being able to help support others in their recovery too.

“The tea party will hopefully encourage folk to come together in a safe space where they can talk. Group support can be very empowering when folk have been through a very isolating time.

“I want to provide a nice atmosphere where people can relax and feel better about their situation when they go home knowing that they are not suffering on their own.”

She added: “Hopefully, if this first tea party is a success, we could perhaps explore the idea of doing it on a more regular basis, perhaps quarterly.

“I will need feedback to find out what folk need.”
