A toddler from Tain has been delivering colouring books all over the town to put a smile on other children's faces.

Little Maisie Star Torley, who is only two-and-a-half, helped by mum Elaine managed to give out 135 books and activities.

Thanks to Inverness street sweeper Martin Macdougall, Maisie was given the books to deliver after he had calls from the town for something for youngsters to do during the lockdown.

Since starting the initiative, Mr Macdougall has given out more than 640 books and colouring pencils across the Highlands to children, simply to put a smile on their faces.

Ms Torley said: "Maisie Star was gifted a book from Martin Macdougall after I saw his story on Facebook. He posted one out and he did not question us being in Tain.

"We got speaking about other families that had asked him in my area. So he sent me four books as I said I could drop them off to people if there was more than one. That is when loads of people started to ask.

"So Martin kindly sent up a lot of books for Maisie to gift to boys and girls in the area. Soon we had to get more and more books as there was a lot of people interested. We have now reached 135 people in Tain alone.

"This is truly amazing, that all this started with Martin using his holiday money on books for kids. Maisie says 'mummy can we give books to all the boys and girls to make them happy, as they're all sad about these bad germs".

"She knows she is helping – the Book Man – as she calls him to make kids smile.

"She has been out in the rain, sun and wind. She has loved every minute of being the post girl.

"We would like to thank Martin for letting us help him with this wonderful thing he has done for all the children."

Mr Macdougall said: "There are so many people to thank for helping me. But wee Maisie Star is extra good at helping."
