A 48-year-old Tain man threatened to dig up the body of his ex-partner's dead dog and take photographs of it, Inverness Sheriff Court was told.

David Boyle of Mansfield Estate also threatened to distribute intimate videos of the woman and sent her around 40 text messages in the course of threatening behaviour and domestic abuse committed between July 16 and July 18, 2024.

Sentence had previously been deferred for a background report on Boyle, who was represented by defence solicitor Rory Gowans.

He told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "He was upset due to other matters but he can't behave like this."

Boyle was placed under a year's social work supervision and a non-harassment order was imposed to protect his former partner for the same period.
