Tain by-election dates announced

Jamie Stone resigned his council seat after winning Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross for the Lib Dems in the Westminster elections.

The by-election, which is being held on Thursday, September 28, has been brought about by the resignation of Lib Dem councillor Jamie Stone who has taken up his seat in Westminster following the UK parliamentary elections in June.

Nomination papers will be available from Thursday, August 10 from Tain Service Point and via the home page of Highland Council’s web site http://www.www.highland.gov.uk

Tuesday, September 12 is the latest time for registering to vote in the by-election.

Postal votes will be issued on Monday, September 18.

If contested, polling will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday, September 28 at the following polling stations:

• Duthac Centre, Tain (two stations);

• Inver Village Hall;

• Carnegie Hall,Portmahomack;

• Fearn Abbey Church Hall;

• Mercat Centre,Munro Crescent, Milton;• Nigg Village Hall

• Seaboard Memorial Hall, Balintore

The count will take place at the Duthac Centre in Tain on Friday, September 29.
