POLICE made four arrests and detained two other men on alleged immigration offences following a number of raids in Dingwall and Inverness at the weekend.

The Home Office has confirmed officers arrested a 47-year-old Malaysian man for allegedly working in breach of visa conditions at Ding’s Chinese Restaurant in the High Street in Dingwall.

He was detained pending curtailment of his visa.

Elsewhere in the town, immigration officers arrested two Bangladeshi men, aged 37 and 38, at a premises in Tulloch Street for allegedly overstaying their visas – again both men were detained.

There were also a number of other swoops in Inverness.

In a statement a spokeswoman said: "Acting on intelligence, Immigration Enforcement led a multi-agency operation on Friday, June 28, supported by Police Scotland, HMRC, Trading Standards and Highland Council Environmental Health."

The statement added that Ding's Chinese Restaurant was served a civil penalty referral notice warning that a financial penalty of up to £20,000 would be imposed unless the employer could demonstrate that appropriate right-to-work document checks were carried out, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document confirming permission to work.
