A “SWEET” gesture by a Highland bakery chain is helping to boost a vital physical therapy facility in Ross-shire.

Harry Gow, which operates numerous sites in Ross-shire and the wider Highlands, has been busy baking for the greater good after assisting fundraising efforts for the Puffin Pool in Dingwall.

The Puffin Pool had been raising money to replace and upgrade of important equipment that is needed to operate the facility.

The charity launched a campaign to raise £60,000 in order to replace its air-handling unit, among other necessary repair works and refurbishment. The campaign followed occasions where the pool had been forced to close due to parts failing. The repairs will help prevent it from such unforeseen events in the future. And, to help it out, Harry Gow Bakery decided to donate 100 per cent of its cupcake sales in one month across all 19 of its sites. The gesture raised a whopping £4000.

Thanks to that generous donation, and a variety of other fundraising efforts, including input from the local community, the Puffin Pool has now reached its target and renovation work will soon begin.

Barbara Manson, a board member at the Puffin Pool said: “The board, staff and users of the Puffin Hydrotherapy Pool are extremely grateful to Harry Gow Bakery for supporting us by agreeing to donate all the sales of their cupcakes during May. Harry Gow Bakery is a local family business and like the Puffin Pool serves the people of the Highlands and is renowned for the quality of its products.

Jane McIntosh, director of Harry Gow, said: “We heard that the Puffin Pool had launched a £60,000 fundraising appeal to replace and upgrade essential equipment and willingly offered our support. We always try to back local fundraising campaigns where possible and it’s great to hear that our donation helped to achieve the target.”
