Easter Ross is set to lose two councillors this summer with the surprise resignations of Pauline Munro of the SNP and Liberal Democrat Molly Nolan.

News of the resignations was confirmed with the release of next week’s full council papers.

Councillor Munro is a long-serving elected member on the local authority but Councillor Nolan was only elected a little over two years ago.

There is no word yet on when there will be a by-election for the two soon to be empty seats in the four-member ward.

Until that vote takes place the development will leave the Cromarty Firth ward - at the heart of the Highland’s new Green Freeport, encompassing facilities in Invergordon and Nigg - represented by former SNP, now Highland Alliance, member Maxine Smith and the SNP’s Tamala Collier.

The pair have not enjoyed the best relationship.

Councillor Smith was previously suspended from the council for one month over suggestions she made about Councillor Collier’s ability to perform her duties as an elected member while pregnant.

No reasons have yet been given by either councillor for their decisions to step down.
