Ross-shire based Highlands and Islands list MSP Maree Todd welcomes surge in number of people registered with NHS dentists in region

A SURGE in the number of people registered with NHS dentists has been welcomed by a local MSP.
Maree Todd, a list SNP MSP for the Highlands and Islands who is based in a Dingwall constituency office, was speaking after new figures revealed there has been an 188.1 per cent jump in the number of adults registered in NHS Highland since 2007.
The number of children in the Highlands registered with an NHS dentist also rose sharply, with 90.9 per cent now registered – an encouraging rise of 63 per cent.
Ms Todd said that there were now many more people registered with an NHS dentist than before the SNP came into power – 107 per cent more adults and 43 per cent more children on a national level.
“This SNP Scottish Government has taken huge strides in improving the oral health of people in the Highlands and across Scotland,” she said, arguing that the figures were much stronger than under previous governments.
“Since the SNP came to power, efforts to increase the number of people receiving regular dental check-ups is paying off, with the number of adults registered more than doubling across Scotland.
“Here in the Highlands, we’ve seen 188.1 per cent more adults and 63 per cent more children registered with an NHS dentist since 2007.
“Of course there’s always room for improvement, and I hope to see more people in the Highlands ensuring they are able to access a local NHS dentist.”
