MOTORISTS are being warned to expect busier roads following the arrival of the school summer holidays.

Police have urged drivers to plan extra time for their journeys, and to be alert to the actions of other motorists amid an expected upsurge in the number of holidaymakers on and around the North Coast 500.

A spokesman for the force said: "Happy school holidays to all the pupils and teachers.

"Whether you’re plotting your stops for the North Coast 500 or working out a driving route for an island hopping adventure, make sure you’re planning a safe staycation.

"Roads may be busier than usual with more road users who are unfamiliar with the area.

"Plan extra time for your journey, pay attention to speed limits and other road users, and follow local Covid-19 restrictions.

"Plan smart, drive smart."
