Summer Isles cottage demolition and yoga studio replacement proposed in plans submitted to Highland Council

A seafront house on one of the Summer Isles could be demolished and replaced with a larger two-storey building housing storage and a yoga/art studio.

Plans have been submitted to Highland Council to demolish Rowan Cottage, which sits on the eastern side of Tanera Mòr, close to the site of the former herring station.

Summer isles Enterprises Ltd has lodged plans to demolish the one-storey, three-bedroom property and replace it with a two-storey building on the same site.

If approved, the new building would feature a natural sandstone lower storey, with timer shingle upper.

The lower level would be used as storage space, with the first storey - which would be accessed via an external staircase, would house an open plan yoga/art studio space.

In a supporting statement lodged with the application, the architects for the proposed building state: "The upper floor of the building is of light weight material (timber singles), that once weathered will blend into the landscape.

"The building is located at the bottom of a ‘hill’ and benefits from having a “green”, tree backdrop. The building will be sited on the footprint of an existing dwelling. There will be no negative impact on Landscaping as a result of the construction of this building."
