A YELLOW weather warning for gales has been issued for Wester Ross.
Met Office forecasters have issued an alert which covers Scotland's west coast from Cape Wrath in the north to Mull and Iona in the south.
The alert comes into force at 3pm today and will remain in place until 5am on Saturday.
"Strong winds may cause some travel disruption later today and overnight into Saturday," said a spokesman.
"Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely. Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are likely.
"Some short term loss of power and other services is possible
"It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities [will be] affected by spray and/or large waves."
In response to the worsening conditions, CalMac has cancelled services on its Ullapool-Stornoway ferry for the remainder of Friday, and has warned that services on Saturday may be "liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice".
