Ross fair trade group teases sweet tooth of public to raise awareness

CHOCOLATE was the popular star of the show when a Strathpeffer group dedicated to promoting a fair deal for farmers in developing countries staged an awareness-raising event.
The Strathpeffer Fair Trade Group made its stand at the Victorian Station in Strathpeffer to mark Fair Trade Fortnight
Fair Trade Fortnight is an annual event which aims to raise awareness of the importance of Fair Trade to producers and communities in developing countries who can use the social; premium to improve education, health and basic services like clean water.
This year the focus is on chocolate producers with a campaign to ensure producers are paid a living income and a petition to this effect will be presented to the UK Government
Members of the Strathpeffer Fair Trade Group put up a stall at the Victorian Station with displays about Fair Trade and many types of Fair Trade chocolate for people to sample.
Those visiting the stall could then purchase their favourite chocolate at the Small Planet Trading sho,p which stocks a range of Fair Trade products.
A beautiful cake made with Fair Trade ingredients was baked by Karl Taylor at the Museum Coffee Shop and was enjoyed by all who visited the stall.
There was also a competition for children to win a Fair Trade bunny and this was won by Denise Page and donations were sent to Fair Trade Foundation and Fair Trade Exchange from money raised at the event.
