A NEW 'signing' is set to strengthen Ross County's links to community education – after it teamed up with the University of the Highlands and Islands.

The club and university have signed a three-year agreement to "collaborate on educational opportunities for students, staff and the wider community".

The deal follows a long history of collaboration between the two groups – from students at Inverness College UHI designing a new digital match day programme for the club, to work with their sports students and the university's active health group to develop research on nutritional education initiatives.

The new partnership is expected to expand opportunities to work together.

Steven Ferguson, chief executive officer at Ross County, said: "We have already enjoyed a fantastic working relationship and we very much see this as an exciting opportunity to expand and strengthen it, creating development opportunities for our staff, as well as students and our local communities."

Dr Iain Morrison, Dean of Students at the university added: "As a longstanding season ticket holder and member of the Staggies Army, I know there are many synergies between us.

"We are both extremely community oriented, are strongly rooted in our region and share a drive to provide opportunities for our people.

"This formal partnership with the club will allow us to build on our existing activities and unleash the tremendous potential that exists to do more together in the provision of work experience for students, collaborative initiatives for staff, students and players, and the development and delivery of relevant training courses.

"We are looking forward to working closely with Ross County FC, and I will have my boots cleaned and ready for use if called upon, although I think that scenario is highly unlikely!"
