AN Easter Ross councillor has shared with constituents a commitment from a local bus company over the planned resumption of a loss-making Seaboard area service at the end of this month.

Stagecoach’s Highland commercial officer Alisdair Goodall has told Tain and Easter Ross councillor Derek Louden that government advice is that public transport should only be usedMr Goodall has acknowledged suspension of the service is inconvenient for people, for example, who are trying to keep hospital appointments.

Mr Goodall said: “This service is provided on a commercial basis i.e. entirely at our cost. Highland Council have no input into the provision of this service.”

He added: “I hope you don’t mind me mentioning that this service is provided entirely at our cost without any support and actually runs at a loss. I hope that this shows our commitment to the Seaboard community and our hope that the communities served will support the service.”

Mr Goodall wrote: “During the pandemic all non-essential services were withdrawn, and services only provided for essential services for keyworkers. This advice remains in place.

“However as I indicated to your constituent that unless government advice indicates otherwise, we will be reintroducing this facility from June 28 as services ramp up.”

The withdrawal prompted calls within the area for people to make known their concerns to Stagecoach over the problems it would cause them.
