THE operator of a horse riding centre near Muir of Ord is hoping to upgrade and expand its facilities.
Ord Stables Ltd is seeking planning permission for a replacement stable block, an increased exercise area and improved, larger, livery stables.
The application to Highland Council is currently under consideration.
At present, the site includes a stable block for 15 horses and a small riding school/arena for exercising the liveried horses.
The proposal will include a larger riding school exercise area together with improved livery facilities, particularly larger stalls for each horse. There will be no increase in the number of horses at livery.
In addition, an area for parking will be provided, sufficient to include space for horseboxes/trailers. The existing access from the public road will be retained under the proposals.
According to the planning statement, the applicant has recently acquired the site and seeks to improve the existing business.
The buildings are similar in design to agricultural units.
Welfare facilities for staff and owners of the liveried horses are included in the application.
The proposed exercise/riding school area extends the area currently provided for owners of the liveried horses to use. It will remain as an open-air facility and involves only making good the surface for all-weather use.
The applicant owns Broomhill Farm which comprises the livery of 15 horses run under Ord Stables Ltd and sheep breeding.
The site is located to the west of Muir of Ord, outwith the built area, and comprises an area of open fields.
