SSEN Transmission has lengthened the period for one community to provide feedback on plans related to a planned major upgrade of the network in the Highlands.

With a link coming to Beauly via Dundonnell the consultation extension relates to a proposed new HVDC convertor station and AC substation on Arnish Moor on Lewis.

Groups can now apply for a share of the SSEN Transmission funding from £40k to £500k

The feedback period for the initial statutory pre-application consultation event that took place in Stornoway last month has been extended to Thursday, November 28.

SSEN says this is in recognition of the level of local interest and engagement in the proposals.

A second consultation and feedback event will take place in November.

The proposed 400kV substation and converter station – known as the Lewis Hub – will allow 1.8GW of new renewable electricity generation to connect to the electricity transmission network.
