A son attacked his father after coming to stay with family in Inverness at Hogmanay last year because he got told off for letting the pet dog escape.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that 23-year-old Alistair MacEachen of Hatton Road, Rattray in Perthshire punched his father repeatedly in the face when he came back into his house in Roundhouse Court, North Kessock following a shopping trip.

He admitted assault to injury and threatening or abusive behaviour.

Fiscal depute Adele Gray said: "Neighbours heard him shouting but could not hear what he was saying.

"There was an argument before he left in his car only to return and start another physical altercation.

"He was asked to leave the property and kicked a hole in a wall.”

Police were called.

"As he was being put in a police van, he continued to shout and swear at his father who suffered bruising and swelling," Ms Gray said.

Sheriff Robert Frazer told MacEachen: "This is an alarming incident involving your father and members of your family."

He deferred sentence until October 10 for a background report.
