A SNOW hit mountain pass which was forced to close to all traffic on Thursday “is likely” to stay shut right through the weekend, Highland Council has warned.

The C1087 Bealach na Bà road on the Applecross peninsula remained closed on Friday “due to drifting snow”.

A Highland Council spokeswoman added: “It is likely to remain closed until Monday, but Highland Council will continue to monitor conditions and the forecast and open the road as soon as is possible.”

The snow-hit mountain pass is not the only Highland route to be rendered impassable due to the recent wintry weather. Snow gates on the A939 Tomintoul to Cock Bridge road over the Lecht are also currently closed, while further east the A93 between Braemar and Spittal of Glenshee is also shut due to snow.
