HIGH-sided vehicles were banned from the A87 Skye Bridge this evening amid strengthening winds and imminent Met Office weather warnings.

Traffic Scotland confirmed the closure of the road to tall vehicles just after 5.25pm, blaming strong winds and added that "all other vehicles should use extra care when crossing".

The move came just hours before the start of a yellow weather warning for "persistent and heavy rain", which will commence at 4am on Saturday morning.

CalMac also cancelled its Friday afternoon sailings between Ullapool and Stornoway, each way.
