Alness woman had sister in mind as hair lopped for Little Princess Trust cancer survivors
MEMORIES of her sister selecting a wig during chemotherapy treatment triggered a wave of emotion for an Easter Ross woman as she succumbed to a hairdresser’s scissors.
Alness-based Sarah Sangwin, who works with family-run Mairi Urquhart & Son funeral group, was scrolling through social media one evening when she came across a video of a young cancer patient receiving a wig through hair donation.
The Little Princess Trust relies solely on the generosity of supporters who help the charity give hair and hope to many children and young people with cancer each year.

The desire to do something to help was even stronger than most for Sarah.
She said: “I had spoken with a work colleague about getting it cut off just to change the style and then came across the video.
Her sister Joanna suffered from Hodgkin lymphoma back in 2016 and lost her hair due to chemotherapy.
“I know when she received her wig it helped with her confidence during such a difficult time, thankfully she is now cancer-free.”
Earlier this month, she “took to the chair to get the big chop” with a couple of work colleagues for support and to take photos and videos.
Sarah said: “We were just blethering before the scissors came out and a wave of emotion came over me.
“It brought me back to when my sister was sat in a hairdresser's selecting her own wig during her chemotherapy treatment and reminded me of how it brought a slight comfort to her to feel just a little bit of herself again.
“I felt a sense of pride that I hopefully can bring that to a little boy or girl.
“The scissors came out and that was it. I had six large sections of hair put into bobbles and then it was all chopped off, styled and 3 hours later we were done.
“A huge thank you to Kayleigh Law and Eilidh Degan for doing my hair for me. I got home later that night and decided to measure how much we had managed to cut off and we managed a whopping 13 inches in each section, so I am over the moon.
“I'd love to personally thank each individual who supported me in donations and lovely comments throughout my fundraising. I have managed to raise £1110 which I am so overwhelmed by, I am also incredibly touched by all the lovely comments I have received regarding my new hairdo.”
