Infants at a primary school in Tain are enjoying a new barked area in their learning garden after a power outage required SSE repair men to dig up the area.

Knockbreck Primary School were all set to welcome children back to class on Thursday, January 6 after the festive holidays — but a break in an electricity cable left them with no power, heat or light and children were told to stay at home.

SSE carried out the necessary repairs to restore power to the school, but in doing so they were forced to dig up several play areas around the grounds.

Headteacher Jane Mackay said: "It turned out to be a fairly huge job as they had to replace one of the cables. They had to dig up the path beside our Primary 1 hut and much of the infant garden behind the buildings too. They managed to get the power back on by about 9.30pm and we were open again the next day.

"On a positive note, SSE put it all back and also put in a new barked area for us!

"We would like to thank SSE for all of their hard work, turning a disastrous start into a happy outcome for all. Thanks again from all at Team Knockbreck."
