Sheep and cattle prices from Dingwall Mart sale

DINGWALL and Highland Marts Ltd sold 1336 prime sheep 7 prime cattle at its recent sale.

Prime heifers (7) averaged 238.8p (-6.4p) and sold to 251.0p per kg for a 565kg Limousin cross from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall and £1,469.85 gross for a 615kg Charolais cross also from Mountrich Farm, Dingwall selling to Messrs John M Munro Ltd, Dingwall.

New season lambs (764) averaged 244.7p (-18.8p) and sold to 259.2p per kg for a pen of 49kg Beltex crosses from Craigiebank Farms, Keith selling to Messrs Fraser Brothers, Butchers, Dingwall and £136 gross for a pen of 55kg Suffolk crosses Muirton Mains, Urray.

Feeding sheep (572) sold to £148 gross for Texel ewes from Torgorm, Conon Bridge.

The verdict: “Lamb trade, all be it not as brisk as last week, saw all classes keenly bid for with more Mule and Blackface types forward. Best bred continental sorts were still short of buyers’ requirements. Another grand number of ewes for this centre saw more fresh faces present amongst the vendors lists. Trade was sharper on the week with the sale mostly consisting of Hill Cheviots and Blackface ewes”.
