A9 'likely to remain closed for some time' near Alness after 'serious' multi-vehicle road crash, Traffic Scotland has announced; Police Scotland officers on scene and diversions being put in place

A SERIOUS road crash has closed a section of the A9 in Easter Ross.

Speaking shortly after 11am, Traffic Scotland confirmed that the road had been closed "in both directions at Alness following a serious road traffic collision" and was likely to remain closed "for some time".

It was earlier reported that multiple vehicles were involved, but no word on the number has been released yet.

A Police Scotland spokesman later added that the collision was about 600 metres north of the Skiach Services.

"Motorists are asked to alternate routes where possible," they said. "Diversions are being put in place by Bear Scotland and will divert traffic to B9176 then B817 through Alness.
