Officers and mountain rescue teams have been searching that peak “and the nearby areas” in a bid to trace him.

And they have urged anyone who may have seen Mr Ross since Sunday, September 8 to get in touch.

Police said today: “Ian Ross remains a missing person and enquiries are ongoing to trace him.”

Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team meanwhile posted: “On Thursday team members turned out to assist Torridon mountain rescue team in the continuing search for missing hill walker, Ian Ross, in the Beinn Dearg area in Torridon.

“Along with two Search and Rescue Dog Association (SARDA) dogs, team members from Torridon, Royal Air Force (RAF) Lossiemouth and police north division mountain rescue team and a Police Scotland helicopter.

“Hill parties searched the area on and around Beinn Dearg in good visibility. Sadly nothing was found.”

Sergeant Duncan Birse, of Dingwall Police Station, previously said: “Mr Ross was last spoken to by family on Sunday, September 8. He is in regular contact with his family and when they hadn’t heard from him for a week, they contacted police.

“He is a keen hill-walker, and due to the fact of where his car was found, we have experienced officers along with colleagues from local mountain mountain rescue teams searching Beinn Alligin and the nearby areas in an effort to trace him.

“We’d ask that anyone who may have seen Mr Ross since Sunday, September 8, or his grey Dacia Duster car to get in touch.

“Information can be passed to officers via 101. Please quote ‘incident number 2381 of Tuesday, September 17’ when calling.”

Mr Ross is white, 5ft 9in tall, of slim build and has wavy grey hair. It is not known what he was wearing when he disappeared.
