Scots top 20 hobbies revealed as A to Z list for anyone looking for inspiration during coronavirus crisis is shared

A new study by Stannah reveals that Scots spend three years doing hobbies in their lifetime – equating to 26,208 hours or 416 hours per year.

The average person enjoys three hobbies a week, dedicating more than eight hours of their free time to them.

The findings show that in Scotland nearly half (49 per cent) of Scottish people say their hobbies make them happy and put them in a good mood

The main reason Scottish people pursue a hobby is to keep their brain sharp (46 per cent) followed by seeking escapism (45 per cent)

Over a third (38 per cent) of Scottish grandparents have shared their hobbies with their grandchildren

The research has also found these to be Scotland’s top 20 hobbies:

1 Walking (60%)

2 Reading (56%)

3 Eating out (51%)

4 Gardening (49%)

5 Travelling (47%)

6 Cooking (43%)

7 Socialising (37%)

8Baking (37%)

9 Doing puzzles (29%)

10 DIY (28%)

11 Cycling (25%)

12 Swimming (25%)

13 Playing video games (23%)

14 Football (22%)

15 Doing arts and crafts (20%)

16 Running (18%)

17 Playing board games (18%)

18 Upcycling (17%)

19 Going to the gym (15%)

20 Learning a language (15%)

The figures were drawn from a study of 2000 adults conducted by OnePoll in September this year.
