YOUNG Staggies fans were put in the picture ahead of the new season this week – quite literally.

The annual team photo session, which is generally a press-only affair, was thrown open to members of the public this week.

It comes as County fans eagerly anticipate the start of the club's third consecutive campaign in the top flight of Scottish football.

The open invitation was an opportunity eagerly seized by scores of fans on Wednesday.

The trailblazing initiative had been suggested by Staggies' manager Derek Adams and was welcomed by young fans and their parents keen to meet their heroes and get to know the club’s slew of fresh signings ahead of this weekend’s league season curtain-raiser in Dingwall.

General manager Ranald Gilbert said yesterday: “It was a really good turn out and very successful from our point of view — the whole idea was to give fans a chance to meet the players and get a few autographs.

“I had no idea there would be so much interest. Not only did the fans who came down get in on the team photo, the players and coaches then spent a long time mixing with the fans and signing autographs and posing for photos.

“It was a really good way of letting the fans meet the new players as well as their heroes who have been at the club for a while, and I think the players and coaches enjoyed it too!

“I would like to say a big thank you to the manager and players for their help on the day, and particularly to Derek as when we were talking about the possibility of doing an event like this before the start of the season it was him who suggested we tie it in to the team photo which worked really well.”
