A REPORT of two sailors stranded on a yacht in the Cromarty Firth triggered the launch of an Easter Ross-based lifeboat last night.

The RNLI Invergordon all-weather Trent Class Lifeboat Douglas Aikman Smith left her berth with seven crew on board and headed west towards Invergordon Sailing

Club at 9.21pm.

The crew spotted the stricken vessel with two people on board after a tender vessel from the slipway failed to start.

Arriving on scene 13 minutes after the pagers sounded, the lifeboat was manoeuvred into position to allow the two sailors be safely transferred from the yacht to safety.

Afetr the 22ft yacht was secure on a newly placed mooring, the two were then transported back to Invergordon West Harbour to be reunited with awaiting family.

Local Coastguard teams arrived on scene at the sailing club and assisted with recovery of the stricken tender vessel along with an RNLI volunteer.

The lifeboat was refuelled and made ready for service by 10:10pm.
