‘Sad day’ for Alness as stretch tent at The Field takes battering from Storm Amy
AN acclaimed Easter Ross initiative which helped the community weather the pandemic has been hammered by Storm Amy.
The Alness-based The Place youth group runs an initiative simply called The Field which came into its own during the coronavirus crisis.
A large stretch tent acquired at that time allowed for sheltered outdoor activities which met pandemic guidelines and was credited with helping boost the physical and mental wellbeing of many at a dark time.

But it has been badly damaged by Storm Amy which has wreaked havoc across the county.
The group this afternoon posted: “It’s a sad day for The Place. Our field has taken a hit in the storm and we are now without our tent.
“As many of you know, our tent started the journey we have been on with The Field at the start of Covid. Plans are underway to resolve the situation however obviously parties, playscheme and the Pumpkin patch are all up in the air for the forseeable future.
“Can you please all watch this space and we will keep you updated. This is very, very sad news for the many groups and schools that use The Field on a daily basis.”
The unfortunate turn of events has prompted the community to rally around with many supportive posts noting how valued the facility is by locals and some saying they would contribute to a fundraiser should that be necessary.
One posted: “Such a shame! Definitely as others have said - set up a go fund me page. So many people benefit from using the field I’m sure there would be lots of folk wanting to help.”
Another said: “It's a huge part of the community.”
