THE supporter of a Ross-shire organisation for abused women and their children is backing an innovative online 'wish list' scheme.

MSP Rhoda Grant, a long term ambassador for Ross-shire Women’s Aid, is urging the public to consider donating household items from the organisation's online wish list to help furnish a new property which will serve as a woman’s aid refuge on Skye.

Earlier this month Ross-shire Women’s Aid was awarded a property in Skye from the Skye and Lochalsh Housing Association.

This new refuge and location is in addition a purpose-built facility which can provide accommodation to seven women and their families. It also has a flat suitable for a women or child with a disability in Ross-shire.

The local woman’s aid group are now appealing to people donate household items to the property through the Ross-shire Women’s Aid wish list through www.amazon.com.uk

It offers a range of items that the public can purchase as a donation to the new property.

The items range from bath mats and tea towels through to kitchen appliances such as kettles and toasters.

Members of the public simply need to visit amazon.com and search for the “Rosswa” wish list to donate.

Rhoda Grant MSP welcomed the new refuge in Skye and the innovative donations option with a motion in the Scottish Parliament.

She said: “I was delighted to learn that Ross-shire Women’s Aid had been awarded a property in Skye by the local housing association. These refuges provide vital support and security to woman and their young children who have experienced domestic violence and abuse.

“I think the wish list idea is a really good, innovative way for the public to donate items to Ross-shire Women’s Aid. It is ideal as you can do it from any location at any time with the ability to donate small items like tea towels which only cost a few pounds right up to kettles around the £20 mark.

“As a long term supporter of Woman’s Aid locally I will be encouraging people to make a donation through the wish list on amazon.co.uk as I plan to do myself.”
