A Contin sharing shed has opened outside the village store in a bid to cut food waste and help those in need.

Contin Community Council said the “inconspicuous wee shed is a starting point towards a grand notion”.

It said: “We hope to progress to a larger shed with a fridge if this proves successful. For the moment, the shed will contain non-perishable goods which do not require refrigeration such as cans, tins, and packets which are within their ‘best before’ or ‘use by’ date and can be donated by and taken by anyone."

The sharing shed is up and running.

It is open whenever the shop is open: Monday-Friday 6am-7pm, Saturday 7.30am-5pm and Sunday 8am-1pm. A micro-grant from SSE helped enable the project.

The Sharing Shed team is looking for volunteers who can make contact by email at contincommunitycouncil@gmail.com or pop in to see Liz at the shop.
