Tributes to former Highland Games judge and ex-heavy Sandy Sutherland who has died at the age of 90

THE funeral will take place tomorrow of a much-loved man best known to many as a respected Highland Games' judge.

Alexander (Sandy) Sutherland has died at the age of 90 at Raigmore Hospital.

Mr Sutherland, formerly of Ardross, passed away peacefully, a funeral notice said.

He was the beloved husband of the late Linde, much-loved father of David and a loving grandfather of Georgina and Peter.

His funeral service will be held at Kilmuir Easter Parish Church on Tuesday at 10am, thereafter to Kilmuir Cemetery.

All friends are respectfully invited, with family flowers only requested. Mourners are invited, if they wish, to make a donation at the service to Macmillan Nurses.

Tain Highland Gathering posted: "The thoughts of all at Tain Highland Gathering are with his son David and family at this time. You will be greatly missed Sandy."

Strathpeffer Highland Gathering posted: "Sad to hear of the passing of Sandy, an ex heavy who was a Scottish champion at shot putt and hammer and also excelled as a thrower in the Highland games."

He was described as a firm but fair, well-liked and respected judge.
