Ross-shire roads report from Highland Council as gritters swing into action

SUB-ZERO temperatures have been reported on a number of Ross-shire routes today in Highland Council's daily update.

Maps of the local authority's gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

Ross and Cromarty – Negative road surface temperatures this morning but all primary routes in good condition, just wet roads. Secondary and other routes covered in frozen slush and icy stretches. Treatment ongoing inclusive of footpaths.

Wester Ross, Strathpeffer and Lochalsh – Overall roads in reasonably good order. Treatment ongoing. No overnight reported issues.

Badenoch and Strathspey – Snow showers throughout the area.Winter treatment on all routes as per policy ongoing. No known overnight issues. North end of area dry roads, south end of area some snow - roads being treated as necessary.

Nairn – Snow on the higher ground with sleet showers throughout the area. Winter treatment ongoing. No known overnight issues.

Caithness –Mostly damp roads. Dunbeath area - parts sparkling, all routes being treated as road surface temperatures low at 7/9 am, no issues reported.

Lochaber – All primary routes treated to policy. Low road surface temperatures with damp roads. All routes well treated. No other issues reported.

Sutherland – Wet roads on low ground with a light sparkle. Higher ground a light covering of snow / slush. Two inches snow over Struie Hill, all routes been bladed and treated according to policy including footpaths.

Skye and Raasay – Variable road temperatures across Skye this morning. Precautionary treatments ongoing on Primary and Secondary routes. No overnight issues to report.

Inverness: Posted at 06:35. Cold morning with some frozen slush on various roads, caution advised while driving. Treating all roads and footpaths as per policy, no known issues.
