A ROSS-SHIRE lifeboat launched into a storm earlier today after a concerned member of the public reported sighting kayakers in challenging waters.

The alert prompted the launch the RNLI Kessock lifeboat.

Following an extensive search from the B Class Atlantic 85, and from shore-based crew from HM Coastguard, the volunteers were stood down with no evidence of any casualty or assistance required.

Helm Jon Ashburner said: “The person who reported the matter did the right thing to call the Coastguard.

"We are always happy to help keep people safe and check these things out and pleased that today no-one was in difficulty. Conditions at the tailend of Storm Aiden were quite choppy in the Firth and we always encourage the public to call a concern in rather than turn a blind eye.”

He added: “As winter approaches the advice from the RNLI remains for those who use and enjoy the sea to check the forecast, inform someone of your intended plans on the water and always carry a means for calling for help in case you get into difficulty. ”

The boat returned to the station where the crew, all kit and boat were washed down, with extra time and attention to Covid 19 protocols, and made ready for the next service.
