A ROSS-SHIRE leisure centre marking its 50th anniversary kickstarted the celebrations last night with a roller disco harking back to its 1970s’ roots.

Dingwall Leisure Centre has laid on a weekend of free activities for visitors, including a number which hark back to its earliest days.

A roller disco last night reeled back the years for some of its long-time users with a decorative backdrop created by local school pupils to help set the scene.

Doreen Munro, who can recall taking her children to playgroups at the centre and still visits six times a week, dressed for the occasion as she was given the cake-cutting honour. Dingwall Leisure Centre

The birthday weekend programme runs from 9am to 2.30pm today (Saturday) and tomorrow. Free bookable events can be found here and include fun sports and games in the activity hall, two more afternoon roller discos and gym inductions for newcomers.

The facility run by High Life Highland aims to make life better for locals and visitors to the area.

The weekend’s events kicked off on Friday with a no-nonsense metafit session, indoor cycling, a military bootcamp and the roller disco.

There’s also “an extraordinary chance” to win a 50-year membership worth almost £16,000. Tickets to the prize draw cost from £10 each and can be purchased by clicking the ‘Enter Draw’ button on this page.
