PRODUCTION at Muir of Ord's SGL Carbon plant is expected to be back to normal by the end of this week after a “localised over-pressurisation event” last week.

No one was hurt in the incident centred on an oven at the high-tech plant.

There were 20 staff in the building at the time.

Stephen Easton, site director, said: “The safety of the team on site is our number one priority, therefore as a precautionary step, a full refurbishment and systems check was carried out before any lines were restarted. By the end of this week we will have all production lines back operational.”

A HSE spokesperson said: “We are aware of an incident and are making enquiries.”

The plant makes a wide variety of components with applications ranging from medical prosthetics to wind turbine blades.
