Last week we reported how the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) appealed for Seaboard villagers to help keep Scotland’s stocks healthy by donating.

A session at the Seaboard Memorial Hall in Balintore last night had been 28 donors short of its 58-person target a few days before yesterday evening’s session.

But the SNBTS confirmed that after an appeal shared in the Ross-shire Journal, all remaining spaces were taken up.

Donor recruitment officer Gill McCauley thanked locals for coming forward. She said: “I’m delighted to tell you that we managed to fill all of the remaining spaces for the Balintore donation session, which was a terrific result.”

The next donation sessions in Ross-shire are at Alness Academy on Tuesday, October 15 when the SNBTS hopes to welcome at least 95 donors and then Golspie High School when another 85 are hoped for.

Dr Sylvia Armstrong-Fisher, SNBTS head of territory, said: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the donors in the area who have already booked to give blood.

“Every time you give blood it’s split into three separate parts (red cells, platelets, and plasma), meaning three lives can potentially be saved or improved with every donation.

“However, blood has a shelf life of just 35 days, so we must make sure that supplies are continually replenished, and we fill our upcoming appointments.”

And if you’ve never given blood before or haven’t given in a while, the team would love to give you a warm welcome.
