Dingwall Bank of Scotland closure hammer blow as MSP urges rethink
A BID to halt the closure of the last remaining branch bank in Dingwall is being made by the town’s MSP.
Kate Forbes has written to the Bank of Scotland urging it to reconsider its decision to close the Dingwall branch on March 25, 2026.
Forbes has raised concerns that the decision will especially affect self-employed businesses, older residents, people with disabilities and households without reliable internet access.

She said: "Dingwall is a regional hub that rural communities depend on for essential services.
"This planned closure of the town's last remaining bank branch is a real loss, especially for older residents, people with disabilities, and households without reliable internet access.
"I have asked the Bank of Scotland to reconsider this decision. I hope they will work with the community to secure a sustainable solution that provides for the real needs of local people.”
The MSP has written directly to the bank urging an immediate reconsideration.
A Bank of Scotland spokesperson: “The way people are banking has changed, as more than ever, customers are choosing to manage their money through our app.
“The local Post Office offers everyday banking, with cash also available at free-to-use ATMs. Customers can also manage their money on our app, online or by calling us.”
Echoing a wider trend across the sector, the bank says that mobile banking “gives people 24/7/365 access to their finances” and that customers can see all their money in one place, pay in cheques, apply for finance, manage subscriptions, check their credit score and message customer support teams.
Responding to concerns about the loss of the branch in Dingwall, the spokesman said: “Customers can use any Bank of Scotland, Lloyds or Halifax branch for their banking, alongside other options such as the Post Office, app, online and telephone banking.
“Customers can also pay in cash at PayPoint locations in Dingwall using our app cash deposit feature.
“The nearby Post Office on the High Street, offers personal and business customers everyday banking services, access to cash, and more.”
It says the nearest free-to-use ATM is quarter of a mile away.
It added: “We’re contacting customers to let them know about the alternate local banking services available.”
