Sheep sale extravaganza at Dingwall Mart 'set the heather alight' with buyers from across the UK and sellers returning home happy
DINGWALL and Highlands Marts Ltd sold 5249 store lambs on Friday on the second of a two-day sheep sale extravaganza.
Cheviot Wedder Lambs (910) averaged £60.81 (down £1.72 on the year) and sold to £86 gross Clebrig, Altnaharra.
Cheviot Ewe Lambs (204) averaged £61.98(down £3.14 on the year) and sold to £86 gross from Shepard’s Bungalow, Altnaharra.
Texel and Texel Cross Lambs (1083) averaged £75.31 (up £2.35 on the year) and sold to £95.50 gross from Struthan, Errogie.
Suffolk Cross Lambs (1178) averaged £76.19 (up £2.58 on the year) and sold to £99 gross from Fendom Farm, Tain.
Beltex Cross Lambs (657) averaged £80.60 (up £5.02 on the year) and sold to £103 gross from Fair-A-Far, Kirkhill.
Cross Lambs (405) averaged £60.75 (up £2.02 on the year) and sold to £82 gross from Caberfeidh House, Leverburgh.
All Other Breeds (801) averaged £48.06 and sold to £96 gross for a pen of Zwartble Ewe Lambs from Ardbrae House, Daviot.
The verdict: “Day two of the Two Day Sheep Sale Extravaganza set the heather alight that the sheep had descended down from. A more buoyant atmosphere filled the ring with a sweet aroma that sent vendors away with the great delight from a successful day’s trading. A grand show of sheep sold to a packed ringside of buyers from all over the UK recording averages that are dearer on the year.
