A WARM letter of congratulation to Kinlochshiel on winning the Camanachd Cup from a fierce local rival has touched hearts across the shinty world.

Kinlochshiel were the pride of Ross-shire last weekend after picking up the sport's most prestigious prize with a 3-1 win over Lovat at the final played in Oban.

Praise for the team effort of the Balmacara-based club has come from across Scotland and beyond in the days since the victory.

But a letter from close to home perhaps means more than most to many with ties to the close-knit sport.

The letter from Anne McCuish on behalf of Lochcarron Camanachd said: "Massive congratulations on winning the Camanachd Cup! You were simply fantastic on the day and definitely deserved your win. A very proud day for you all and for West Coast shinty. A boost for all in the mad Covid world we find ourselves in."

It also hails one of shinty's "gentlemen" in captain Keith MacRae, who scored a hat-trick.

It was warmly received by the club and fans of the sport in general.

Elaine Weir said: "What a lovely thing to do, true spirit in the world of shinty."

John Matheson Nostie stated: "Thank you Anne. I had the pleasure of being surrounded by diehard Carrannachs all supporting Shiel at the game. Top men. One or two also joined in the celebrations over the weekend too."

Kenneth MacRae said: "Great stuff, was great to see a few Lochcarron Camanachd legends supporting Kinlochshiel Shinty Club in Oban."

Callum McLeod wrote: "This typifies shinty. Fierce neighbours on the pitch. Respect, humility, admiration on each other’s achievements, good friendships."
