Ross golfers' charity drive scores with local groups; Ross-Sutherland Senior Golf Society chips in with help for St. Duthus Special Needs School, Black Isle Cares, Muir of Ord Development Trust and Alzheimer Scotland
FOUR Ross-shire groups teeing up a variety of projects have been given a major boost after golfers chipped in with funding.
Since its formation in 1983, Ross-Sutherland Senior Golf Society has donated over £37,500 to worthy causes, most of them in the Highlands.
The charitable money collected is generated solely by members of the society which was set up to organise golfing and other activities for the enjoyment of its members and to donate surplus funds to charity at the close of each year.
Duncan McLeod, a former captain of the Ross-Sutherland Senior Golfers Society, has made the latest round of £500 cheque presentations.
One was handed over to Claire Whiteford, the head teacher of St. Duthus Special Needs School in Tain. The money will be used to buy equipment for a polytunnel which is to be erected to provide the children with additional space to carry out various activities.
Kelsey Bowman, support worker for the Dingwall branch of Alzheimer Scotland was also handed a cash boost which will be used to provide day care facilities for up to a total of 24 people who attend the resource centre on a regular basis.
Also benefitting is the Black Isle Cares charity, set up to help plug some of the gaps in care identified locally.
The money will be used to fund the Meals on Wheels service and provide home care for many old and infirm elderly throughout the peninsula.
The Muir of Ord Development Trust, set up to progress a number of projects in the village, has also secured a funding boost.
Following the success of the village Hub, which is widely used by the community, the Trust is hoping to undertake the restoration of the village hall and improve the facilities.
Mr McLeod said: "We are very proud of our charitable giving and to date the society has supported organisations such as the Highland Hospice, RNLI, RNIB, Diabetes UK, Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland, Cystic Fibrosis, CRY, Macmillan Nurses, CLIC Sergeant, Crossroads Sutherland, Crossroads Ross & Cromarty, Highland Homeless Trust, Invergordon Lifeboat and MS to name but a few."
