A drug addict who bit a police constable and attempted to bite nursing staff had sentence deferred for a background report this week.

Raymond Marshall appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court and admitted the police assault which occurred in New Craigs Hospital, Inverness on July 18, 2021.

He also pleaded guilty to assaulting three nurses and a doctor by repeatedly attempting to bite them on the same date and same venue.

Defence solicitor Douglas McConnell asked for a background report for his 35-year-old client of Forestry Commission House, Dingwall.

He told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "A report may be helpful to see why things have gone awry. Things were going well with his drug treatment and testing order completed. But this was brought on by cannabis misuse."

Sheriff Aitken deferred sentence until September 16 for the report and a restriction of liberty order assessment. Marshall was released on bail.
