A WEEK dedicated to commemorate the service of men and women in the armed forces has been recognised in Ross-shire's county town this week.

Veterans were joined by local dignitaries and representatives of groups such as Poppyscotland and Help for Heroes at a raising of the flag ceremony led by Ross-shire Lord Lieutenant Janet Bowen, who was officiating over the event for the last time in her official capacity.

Mrs Bowen stood shoulder to shoulder with Morris Colvin, Dingwall branch secretary of the Royal British Legion Scotland, as a flag marking the event was raised outside the council buildings in the heart of the town.

Rev Julia Boothby was on hand to lead the blessing of the flag.

There was a good turnout for the event despite the inclement weather.

Armed Forces Day itself is marked on Saturday.
